Exclamation vBulletin.com is now powered by vBulletin 4.1 - also available as a Public Beta

vBulletin.com is now powered by vBulletin 4.1
vBulletin 4.1 is also now available as a public Beta. This can be downloaded from the vBulletin Members Area at: http://members.vbulletin.com
Please note:
  • We do not provide support for Beta versions
  • Some minor bugs remain unresolved at this time, and we do not recommend beta software to be installed on production sites.
  • We always recommend that you back up your database fully before attempting to install beta software.

Important
Two items that we had envisaged to make available as 4.1
  • Updated Editor - to enable WYSIWYG editing in Webkit browsers (Chrome/Safari)
  • "Flexible URL Mapping"
Are not included in this release. Due to both the editor, and the flexible URL mapping affecting all aspects of our product, development and QA has taken a longer period of time than we had initially envisaged, and we are not sufficiently satisfied with the level of quality of either item to release them as features in their current state. Both items will be made available in future releases. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Now, onto what IS included in vBulletin 4.1

Installer
Integrated, inline, single step installer/upgrader, a video of it in action is available here. Helps upgrading a board from vB version 3.5.4+. Supports upgrading via Command-line interface (CLI) for larger forums where a browser times out. Other changes center largely around the stability of the upgrade process and particularly the blog and cms installs which were brought in line with the more robust techniques of the VB installer.
Here are some of the larger install issues that we tackled along with the new install code:

Mobile APIs
vBulletin 4.1 will include the APIs required to communicate with vBulletin's forthcoming Mobile Applications.
We aim to have the developer documentation available for these APIs later this week to assist 3rd party developers wishing to utilize these APIs for their own development efforts.
For the mobile applications to work with vBulletin 4, you will be required to run vBulletin 4.1 as a minimum (our mobile app will support forums running 3.8.x that include an installation of a modification we will release)

Profile customization
Here are some of the fixes to profile customization that are included:

CMS fixes
Here are some of the fixes included in 4.1 for the CMS:

Display Fixes
Fixes to the html/css to resolve cosmetic issues with the product, including rectifying some upgrade issues that occurred with vBulletin 4.0.8 upgrades with Custom Styles.

Misc fixes
Here are a number of the fixes made to everything else in the product:

Known Issues
The following is a non-comprehensive list of known issues in the Beta version, we will endeavor to have these items rectified in the final version

Again, thank you to everyone who has filed bugs in our bug tracker, we sincerely appreciate your assistance - and we hope with this release that we have addressed a large number of the bugs that you have raised.
If you come across any bugs in the product, please continue to file them in our new tracker.

Feedback on the product is welcomed here for licensed customers.
At this stage, we aim to have this release available to you early next week.

Enjoy,
Adrian

p.s. A list of changed templates, and files from 4.0.8 will be provided with the full release of 4.1
